    Default leak no leak

since i got my MOT problems sorted out at the dealers i mentioned that i was using a lot of coolant (every 6 or 7 weeks id top it up by half a pint) they checked for an leaks but could not find any, so they steam cleaned the engine then covered it in talc then was sent on my way told to return last friday.

took it back last friday and still could not find any leaks was then sent away and told to come back on wed, just looked under the bonnet to see if i could see any leaks and there is no sign of a leak BUT my coolant has droped by nearly half a centimeter.
does this mean the leak is internal and if anything is wrong wot is it.

any ideas and solutions much needed for when i return to dealers on wed.

check your oil level see if its risen. All check to see if its gone funny, maybe water leaking via the head gasket into the oil,

maybe leaking into the exhaust manifold or engine and being burnt off? I had to refill my coolant from bottom of the tank twice during the course of me owning my car.. Had it pressure checked and they cant find a problem.. covered 50k now

Talc is only any good if you check just after a run while the engine is still going. Once you stop, the leak will also stop and the coolant will evaporate and may leave no trace. Oil will not evaporate so it stays but coolant is water in the main and will not hang around long.

I thought modern coolants were designed to get into every nook & cranny of the system to dissipate the heat and as a side effect show where a leak was with either blue or pink staining (depending on colour) when it dries out.

it does sound like its internal. Keep pushing them. If they have agreed then keep on them till they find it
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

True, if there were a large leak it might stain the talc but the talc will get grimmy very quick and make it difficult to spot.

We use it on gas turbine engines to find leaks but we run it then check straight away.

Just ask the garage to do a coolant pressure test.. that'll tell you if there's any leaks anywhere in the system.. but V6's do have a nasty habit of leaking water from the water pump and from the oil/water cooler matrix..
