Disconnecting Battery

Hi Guys

Are there any known problems in relation to disconnecting the battery for 1/2 hour or so?

I have just installed a K&N filter and it has been said that the ECU needs to reset and so by disconnecting the battery this will happen

i have a facelift 2.2 Direct SRi if that makes a difference!!

Can anyone tell me if the disconnection is required - it must be said that the filter has been in a week now and it hasn't made a blind bit of difference to the performance - Have I just wasted £45?

There shouldn't be any issue with disconnecting the battery - other than you'll need to reenter the radio code and reset your auto windows.

As for whether the reset is required due to fitting the K&N, I have my doubts. It's supposedly so that the ECU then 'learns' from a 'reboot' how the engine behaves with the filter in. I can't see why it wouldn't 'learn' from just being fitted.

At the end of the day, the resetting will have caused no issue. As for whether the K&N is worth it on that engine, there are guys who have fitted one who I'm sure will be along to give their thoughts.
