Insignia oil leak

Hi folks. I have recently bought a non running insignia diesel which was supposed to have severe engine damage. Upon further inspection I found out that someone had mistimed the belt and when I set it correctly the engine fired straight away and is running sweet. After a few mins I noticed that it has an oil leak from camshaft carrier at right hand side front of engine above the Egr cooler. I thought that someone may have tried to sort this and made a mess of retiming it. I removed the cam carrier and fitted a new genuine metal shim gasket and rebuilt it and still the oil leaked so I stripped it again and fitted it this time with gasket compound between head and shim and carrier and shim thinking this has to cure it but yip you got it still it leaks. My question is are these cam carriers prone to warping or is it the head? Can the carrier be skimmed to remove any possible warp? Has anyone else had this issue? I know it's a long shot but could the wrong oil cause it with possibly being to thin? Thanks for your help
