Default Written my Vectra off.. gutted :(

Having bought the Vectra in Dec 06 and loving every minute of it, an unfortunate accident last Friday has resulted in my beloved being written off

Drove onto a central reservation to avoid another car swerving into me, which caused significant damage to the underside of the front of my car.

It feels strange, as I genuinely feel quite upset. I was really fond of this motor and it will be missed. I've no idea what to replace it with, perhaps if I could find another black Vectra that looked identical.

Anyway, I'm waiting for a call back to discuss the write-off value of the car. It's a Vectra C SXi DTi 2.0 on a 53 plate with 90k FSH mileage in excellent condition. Any ideas on what amount I should be looking for? Any tips on how to increase the pay-out value, I really hope they don't try and take the p*ss with how much they offer.

    RIP dude

Don't take the first offer and have you told the little robbers, sorry insurers, of any mods you had done? If they find any they'll try their hardest to wriggle out of it! Am gutted for you best of luck!

Some insurance companies are influenced by clubs and pictures of your car. Make sure you point them in our direction and send them any pictures of the car to prove it's condition before the accident.

I hope you get it all sorted fella.

Thanks for comments guys, yeh at least I'm fine which is the important thing.

The car was mod-free at present, had plenty of ideas lined up but non implemented, so that shouldn't be a problem.

I'll definitely show pictures if need be and mention being an enthusiast at these forums, and won't accept the first offer they give.

Do they take mileage into consideration when making a price offer? On parkers my car is worth:

    Franchised Dealer £7,620
    Independent Dealer £7,080
    Private Good £6,420
    Private Poor £5,280
    Part Exchange £5,760

That's on 30k miles though. Mine has 90k! Will that make much difference?

That mileage will make quite a difference, I would have thought that Parkers would have a mileage adjustment table on the site for you. If not I bet someone here has a paper copy to hand to calculate it (I would do it, but I'm not at home).

Hi Faz, I did reply to your message but I think I had the yr wrong, so here's an update....

    GLASS'S

    Vehicle summary

    Vauxhall Vectra SXi
    2.0TD Diesel 5-door Hatchback
5 Speed Manual Front Wheel Drive
    Year: 2003 53
    Mileage: 90,000

    Estimated value of your car

    Part-exchange Price:
    Excellent condition:
    £3910
    Average condition:
    £3500
    Below average condition:
    £3080

Normally these car be adjusted by upto a £1000 for a private sale, even though it lists £3910 as a px, a car in that condition if the dealer was retailing it could have as much as £2500 added to it by the time it hit's the forecourt, you need to look at for sale examples that are the same as yours was and see how much they are up for, the Perry's site is quite a good reference point i know they have some older Vec's for sale, personally I'd be hoping they'd settle at at least 5k possibly 5.5k, because that's what I think it's going to cost you to get another one, unless you is a smart cookie and get one from the auctions.

    Vauxhall Vectra LS

5 Speed Manual Front Wheel Drive
    Year: 2003 03
    Mileage: 49,000

    Estimated value of your car

    £4660
    Average condition:

    Below average condition:

This car is for sale at Perry's with an asking of £6295, if a private punter has sold it to them, he'd have got the £4170 from them probably, as you can see it has less miles but is older and a lower spec than yours.
