Notice of downtime this weekend

I think the old saying applies @Ian-Highlander, "short term pain, for the long term gain.......".

You've given the members advance warnng of the downtime/outages, and folk will appreciate that it's for the long term benefit and improvement of the forum and club. Personally I'm just grateful that we have a good bunch of folk behind the scenes that are willing and able to contribute their time and efforts into keeping everything running smoothly. Good effort I say, keep it up.

Lol, I can't take much of the credit so far (not that any of us are after "credit" anyway), whilst I have done a small amount of work on the back end, today was all @Big-Pete and I just sat around spotting issues as they came up. My hard work is yet to come with the next stage, but then it all starts again for Pete after that

Poor Pete's been working his arse off on the site today on a job that in fairness shouldn't have taken anything like as long, the problem is that Vec-C is a lot more complex than the average site due to all the addons, plugins and sheer size of it and as a result even the apparently simplest upgrades throw up massive unexpected issues as you go along.

Just as a heads up to everyone, we may be taking the site back down again shortly and it is likely to be for a good few hours when we do for me to do some of the backend upgrades.

Again, if the site is unavailable when you come to it, don't panic, we'll be working on it.

And we're back (again).

That was NOT fun!! Really seriously scared myself at one point and have ended up having to completely re-install a newer version of MySQL from scratch and restore a backup as the upgrade broke everything rather badly.

I'm pretty sure we're good again now and assuming everything's ok, that's phase 2 complete.

Still another server upgrade and software upgrade to do that Pete and I will have to synchronise to do and then we're all ready for the new software for both this site and the new one.

Please report any issues or problems. Hopefully we can bring the thanks/likes plugin (and a couple of other bits) back online again with this part of the upgrade as the last "phase" broke it.

Not with you fella, the home link at the top of the forum you mean? That's working for me, or am I misunderstanding you? That link was broken after the initial upgrade yesterday but Pete sorted it. Can you be more specific please so we can check it. Ta

yup im referring to the link at the top of the forum page. if I click on it,as usual,it opens to a page with the usual stuff down either side but blank space n the middle of page...make more sense?>.

Ahh you mean the middle "announcement" panel of the home page, yeah I noticed that a while back, the upgrade's not changed that, it's been like it for a while. I meant to mention it to @Big-Pete before we started the upgrade process.
