Default NTSC and PAL and general advice on video cameras

A friend at work is travelling to the states in a few weeks time and with the exchange rate being a little bit favourable at the moment is looking to buy a fancy hard drive camcorder thingy out there. The intention being that when he gets home he then burns the footage to DVD and can play it on his DVD player.

So assuming the camcorder thing is NTSC and the DVD player is PAL, how? Best way? Any website links that you you use that will help? Have tried the usual Google search, but as I have no real idea, not exactly clear

    Cheers
    Andy

You should find almost all camcorders will have both NTSC and PAL on them. Just get him to ask the dumb sales guy and he will be . Then get the guy to hand over the camcorder and check the settings to see if both are listed if they are you just select it. Not sure were ya mate is going but FRY's are about the best price then cicuit city or best buy. Get him to pick up some memory cards they are real real cheap.
