    Default Aux-In switch for CDC40

I have thrown this thread together, to show the simple wiring changes required to allow Aux-In to be used with a CDC40 set-up.

The main proviso is that a DAB box must also be fitted in your car.

There are other threads on here, but they tend to get a bit cluttered after a while with discussions and questions.

So to that end, I do not claim intellectual property on the following information - Although I did produce the wiring diagrams and pin-out to hopefully clarify most queries.

    So - here goes.
Wiring in an Aux-In socket to a CDC40 with DAB module.
    The DAB Connector.

    dab connector.JPG

This is the standard 18 pin DAB Quadlock connector.
We are only interested in 4 wires from this plug.
Pins 1 and 10 are for left audio.
Pins 2 and 11 are for right audio.

    See the pin-out here.

    dab2.jpg

Now then to fit Aux-In, we have two choices.
Either a switch to allow us to listen to either DAB or your auxiliary device.
    Or
Cut the four audio wires from the DAB connector, and wire these directly to a 1/8” (3.2mm) jack socket or jack plug. In this configuration you will not be able to listen to the DAB. Only the auxiliary device.

It is my assumption that you would prefer to have the choice, and therefore we would need to fit a 3-pole double throw switch.
If you have the correct switch, it will have 9 pins on it.
Often termed as being “on-off-on latching”

    3pdt switch.jpg

Here is how to wire your switch.

    dab1 cdc40.JPG

The switch has three rows of pins.
The first row is from the DAB box.
The second row (identified as the common row) will go to the CDC40 head-unit.

The third row will be wired up to you auxiliary socket or plug.

    dab2 auxin.JPG

As a further quirk, you could use a four pole double throw switch, whereby you could use the fourth set of contacts to illuminate an LED when the switch is set to DAB or Aux-in.
Or a different coloured led for each function.
That is up to you really.

    dab3 led.JPG

Strangely the 4 pole switches seem to be easier to get hold of from places like Maplins etc. RS and farnell online also do a wide range of switches
Although there are loads of 3 pole switches available on ebay and other similar auction sites.

There is only one further step, and that is for those who also wish to add a DAB module.

The wiring details are on the pin out.
but remember - If you are not using Tech 2...(In otherwords using OpCom / Vauxcom).
retro adding a DAB module will entail divorcing your current CDC40 and display - fit the DAB box, and then marry it all up together again.

Tech 2 is different as the infotainment modules are installed indevidually - not simultaneously.

    Good luck.

One final pointer - The aux-in audio will only work as long as the DAB box is getting a suitably strong signal reception.
If the signal strength drops, the DAB module mutes the audio.
regardless of whether you are switched to DAB or Aux-In.

Further Info - Possible extra wires.

For people upgrading from CD30 to a full system CDC40, GID and DAB box, you may need to add further wires between your head-unit and display.

There are the serial Data wires.
Blue on CDC40 pin 33 to GID pin 8,
Yellow on CDC40 pin 39 to GID pin 9 and
Brown on CDC40 pin 12 to GID pin 24.
These wires are not said to be required on BID or CID.

Then there are the obvious Mid Speed CAN wires from -
DAB box pin 3 to Display pin 17 (green)
DAB box pin 12 to Display pin 18 (white).

DAB power and ground wires can be spliced into the same wires as the head-unit, as they both use Fuse Fi1.

Regarding the DAB connector - check behind the glovebox for an 18 pin quadlock.
Vauxhall can be very hit and miss, but some vehicles have the connector in place - others do not.

@Admin .. This is a fantastic and well documented mod, immediately worthy of being placed in the "How2" section IMO

I have to point out that this is my interpretation of the various threads.
I have merely condensed and clarified the information already provided.
I personally have not yet fitted DAB to my Cavalier, as popular thought was that I should retain my CD70.

So it would be good if one or two members could confirm that I have got it correct before we even consider How 2 status.

I have the whole kit except the aux-in switch, should I ever change my mind.
Hmm - a free-standing project for the summer maybe.

I tried retrofitting the DAB (I already had Opera in place and working but no DAB so far) but it is not working for me. As there are no digital broadcast radios in Romania, I have just cut the 4 audio wires (2 audio signal + 2 audio ground) from DAB and used the wires from the Head Unit plug to connect to the aux-in plug. But the DAB unit is switched to "mute" and can't undo this no matter what I tried: switching on/of the Head Unit, switching Opera to "mute" several times, restarting the car so the DAB gets a shock...none of these is working for me, but apparently worked for other guys here in Romania...

Does anybody know any way to prevent the DAB from switching to "mute" the audio outputs?

Sorry - it is all done automatically by the dab unit / cdc40.

If a sufficient dab signal is found, audio is enabled.
If there is insufficient dab signal, then audio is muted.

I also live in Romania, so no DAB signal, but the Aux-in mod works as "advertised" here. I think Alin's problem is a wiring problem.
