Default How does the gear knob come off ?

I'm having a leather interior made up in dark grey - the matching gear lever gater will be much easier to fit with the gear knob removed but I'm loathed to go blindly tugging & turning - HELP!!!

Have a look in the how 2 section under how 2 fit an irmscher gear knob (2nd page 3rd link from the bottom of page). The easiest option would be hitting it off but you would need to find a bolster or chisel small enough to fit underneath the lip on the under side of the gear knob so that it won't damage the gear knob if you're going to re-fit it. If you're going to be replacing gear knob with another one just whack it off it'll come off with 3 hits it easier than sawing it off.

I've just read up on the hacksaw & hammer methods. I guess these are the very unscientific answers - thanks vauxhall

I sawed mine off & it was hard work but worth it, fitted an irmy wood effect one, didnt fancy whacking it with a hammer but does sound easier

I must admit the thought of whacking it with a big hammer is a bit unnerving - will I have to hang onto the gear lever to prevent damage to the linkage & mounting etc while I'm whacking

Can't say I blame you - Mr Leather trimmer suggested stitching short of the top to leave room to slide it over the knob - may well leave it at that. Which knob did U fit & do you find it better or just a cosmetic mod?

I trust you won't risk whacking that one too much when you want it off

theres a grub screw that holds it on & a little bonding agent if you want to use it
