    Default I'm confused!

I read today that the 255ps Vectra VXR is a Group 18E insurance and the 280ps Vectra VXR is a group 15 insurance. After a quick search on the on-line autotrader I performed two insurance quotes via Confused.com.

To my surprise both cars came out at £650.00 per year through Swinton. I thought I'd made a mistake or the dealer had made a mistake in advertising either car but I've tried quite a few registrations from different cars now and all the same.

Any ideas why the same price? Can someone else have a go and see what results they get.

I then got a quote for an Astra VXR and it came out at £630.00.

Did one last week for the 280ps version for if I got my new job near home.

    I'm still gutted!!

Through the AA, it was £1250 fully comp.

So probably about £600 through most others then!!

    Not so Gutted!!

I just did a quote through Privilege and it came out at £375 (Not a lot dearer than my 3.0). No option of selecting any bhp model. There was only 1 model of VXR to choose.

Here's a tip. Put your wife down on your insurance policey as it seems to make it go down (providing they have passed their test!)

My insurance is business use, any driver dude.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the insurance companies haven't got their act together with the new BHP version. I wonder what will happen when they do get their act together; someone will be in for a shock come renewal time.

seems strange that the 255 is a higher insurance group than the 280 version, however I know that the Leon Cupra R 225 is cheaper to insure than the 210 version because the 225 version has a tracker fitted as standard..... maybe something along these lines????

That was one of the reasons I went for the two quotes. Obviously the 255ps version is cheaper on Road Tax, and will be a hell of a lot cheaper next year.

I just thought I'd check the Vauxhall website and apparently the 280ps Vec VXR (according to them) is a group 18E. Maybe a typo in Total Vauxhall then?

    Hi all,

Don't forget that the group stated by the manufacturers is only the ABI recommended car group for that model. Each individual insurance companies set of underwriters determine what car group they decide a model is in.

Quite often you will find that an uprated version of a vehicle (such as the VXR) WILL remain in a similar group to its 'older' verion until such time that the company decides that it is needing to be changed (normally dependant on things like claims ratio and how competitive they seem to be in the market place).
