Anyone use Tesco Insurance + Black Box?
Just a week to go until my driving test comes along.
I've used "Confused.com" to find the cheapest quote for my "Vectra C CDTi 1.9 05 plate" that I bought last week. The cheapest I can get it too is £140 a month but the voluntary excess is £250.
It will come with a blackbox, I don't mind having one of these fitted, the only thing that bothers me is that aren't they fitted to your cars OBD port? if it is, how on earth am I going to use my OBD Bluetooth adaptor?

You could speak to @Woody about the "Y" splitter for the OBD port thus enabling you to run 2 things at the same time
Have you tried Chris Knott as £140 a month is a lot IMO if they take new/young drivers.

I'll get a quote from Chris Knott when I can. Won't this blackbox thing be sticking out of my ashtray though? I think they cable-tie it also so it can't be tampered with.
Currently 24 going on to 25 soon. Held off doing my driving at 17, left it till I was around this age as I knew getting a insurance quote is cheaper.
I had to stick someone else on my insurance to reduce the price otherwise it would be £190 a month. But needed a large family car with 2 kids.

Ahh I see, with the "Y" splitter I think it is 1m long so the box could be put behind the glove box.

Just made a quote at the Chris Knott website.
If Tesco is still cheaper, I'll have to go with them. When the telematics guy shows up, I'll have to see if he can do as you said, stick it behind the glove box or something. I'll be needing the ashtray port free for my Bluetooth adaptor.

I haven't seen one of these "black boxes" but it is likely to be something either on a flying lead, or something like your existing bluetooth OBD adapter.
In either event, I am in the process of doing a deal on the supply of 10 fully wired (all 16 pins) "Y" extension leads.
With one of these you can have 2 devices hooked up to your OBD port.
They use thin ribbon cables so are extremely flexible and will easily go around 90 degree bends and more (you can even fold them in half) and are wired and moulded at 90 degrees to the plugs and sockets so taking up minimal space.
Cost will be £10 posted if I can accumulate interest from 10 members (4 already on the list).

I've used a black box before when I first passed my test, honestly made me feel under pressure all the time didn't like it
the fact I had limited hours didn't help either

My insurance (no black box) when I first started driving (22 years old) was coming in at £114 per month with Admiral. I did have 4 years on a motorcycle though, so I think that helped knock a lot of pounds from the monthly cost.

My daughter has one, well had one from Tesco.
2nd year of renewal and they were too high but she actually liked having it as it meant no pressure from her mates to drive faster or do daft things. ...Maybe not a good idea for me then.
I imagine you would get used to it but to my mind if would be like having mother in the car everyday and I won't see forty years old again!

It's got to be able to be detachable from the OBD port, or how else can a garage (or anyone else) read any fault codes, or reset the service warning indicator?
