Just use a good quality polish.. it sounds like you're still removing the oxided paint layers ( the pink)... we had this on an old Mk2 cav..

i just gave it a good coat of Autoglym polish so try and seal the surface..but if it's badly oxided it will turn the cloths red....

I'm sure once Bryan returns to the land of the living he'll be along with some BETTER advice....

I even got a detailing 'how2' from the man himself at irmschers....

the top layer of paint comes in to contact with the air and reacts with it (oxidisation) normally dulling the paint turning it pink in the case of a red car. to restore the shine you need to remove the oxidised layer and expose "fresh" paint.

Metalic and perlescent paint usually has a clear coat layer but solid colours dont.

Best thing would be to use a good wax to protect the paint and keep it protected, That is what we used to do with my dads old astra that had a solid green colour, it still looked good after 140000 miles and 15 years after it came out of the factory. when we polished it we ended up with green cloths but after getting it to shine it was wax all the way.
