    Default Car Insurance Price Hike

Looking around at insurance as mine is due in March and I need to start saving now if I want to keep the car on the road. Has anybody else noticed an insane increase in the price of insurance. Quotes I'm getting are at least £200 more expensive that last year, and I'll have another year's no claims and 0 points.

I do remember being told when I renewed my policy with @ChrisKnottInsurance last year that I wouldn't be quoted a price higher than what I'm already paying. I really hope they stick by their word.

Same here, although mines still rediculously expensive for a sensible driver who does 1,000 miles a year.

Go on the comparison sites - I do every time - although you do find that to get your business they will give you a low price that increases at renewal time - but just search again and move if you have to

That's where I've been looking, they're all silly money for some unknown reason. I'd have thought they'd come down, or at the very least stay the same.

Really hoping @ChrisKnottInsurance will keep their word and have my business for the third year running!

Like with anything, most companies will try, shop around and you'll find it cheaper. Very few companies go for customer loyalty, more that the customer forgets and auto renewels...

I'm with the RAC and they tried putting mine up, luckily I noticed they had changed my policy to show that my wife was a provisional licence holder when she isn't and has been driving for 8 years and also that the car didn't have a thatcham category 1 alarm fitted when it has. Once they changed it back to the correct details it went down. I always shop around for the best price and then get the RAC to match it which they have always done.

Hi, there have been price increases, not least because of the government's IPT (Insurance Premium Tax, similar to VAT) increase. Repair costs have escalated and the reforms around injury claims haven't had the wished for effect. Rest assured though that we'll do all we can to keep you and quote a competitive price at renewal.

I'll certainly be looking around and getting quotes elsewhere. Just surprised at how much they had all gone up!

Hi N, thanks for the reply. If my insurance is due to expire on the 1st of March, do you know when I'll receive my renewal quote from yourselves?

I've actually just received a quote for less that I paid last year, so I'm hoping you'll still price match?

    Hi,
You should receive it about 21 days before renewal. If you've had a better quote we can often use that as evidence with the insurers that we needed to respond to keep you. Please talk to us when the time comes.

    best,
    Nick
