Can anyone tell me if the check strap (bar of metal that stops the door flying away in the wind) is covered by warranty?

I would think so, Volvo used to cover them when I worked for them a few years ago.

One of my rears does that, sounds like a 20 yr old door that never made it to the oiling party in time.

Smear the metal part in vaseline, trust me! we use it on the metal parts on our upvc windows at work when they start going stiff, 100 times better than wd40 that only last about a week

Is it the actual strap, or the bolt that holds it to the body?

These bolts seem to come loose quite regularly, and when they do, it makes the clonk sound.

WD40 isn't an oil thats why. It will actually remove oil. A drop of 3in1 or engine oil will do the job.

The only thing that I have is spray grease and it hasn't made a blind bit of difference!!

Suppose will have to contact main stealers in the moring and get it sorted - It drives me mad

Yep, been there with an 850. The welds in the A piller used to break so the bracket would make that horrible clonk !

My Vectra doors it too on the drivers door occasionally, using spray grease helped mine a little but it's still there.

It IS covered for sure. I had both fronts done on mine at the 2year service FOC under the warranty.

I messed about with grease etc, but waste of time (noise always came back). If it's under warranty get them changed.
