Default regret buying the vecy now :(

had a strong rattling noise under the hood so took it to vauxhall even though car was working fine.
They told me to come in and told me the flywheel needed replacing and it is going to cost £1300!
So i told them to book it in for a week later and the next day as i was driving to work my engine management light came on and the car lost all power. I got the car to my driveway which i tryed to start and the car has lost power but is trying to start. Sometimes it does but the engine sounds ****ed!
Is this because of the flywheel or a whole new problem?

The Car is an 04 1.9 CDti only had it six months and i have had ongoing problems with it. I do drive it alot and thought it was a reliable car until now. has only done 52000 miles and the warranty just ran out 1 month ago!!! proper gutted.

anyone think it is worth going to a local backstreet garage or is it strongly advised to go to vauxhall for this repair?

If the warranty has just run out it might be worth approaching VX for a contribution towards your costs? Seems a bit poor to think you would have that type of problem at 52000 miles.

I think you have a whole new problem there Tony, has the car recorded any fault code, i.e engine management light on last time it ran, and from previous experience it sounds like a sensor has packed up, probably the crankshaft one.

Next thing, this flywheel issue, you must contact Vx, they do run a program to help towards the cost, and you could find what now looks like 2k of repairs will end up halved or quartered even.

Dealer, who did you buy it from? it might be worth a dig around to find out if the car has had mileage corrections previously, contact the previous owner if possible, it's unlikely and there has been issues with the flywheel anyway, and I understand how you feel at this time, the Vec C imo doesn't represent what you'd normally expect from a Vx product, without wishing to upset anyone, I think it's a nice car, but a flawed flimsy effort.

Sorry if this is an obvious question, but did you buy it from a VX dealer? If so you should have had a Network Q top-up warranty so although the car is now over 3 years I'd expect NetQ to still be valid.

If not I'd follow advice above and contact VX anyway - can't hurt to try.

Just top add to what others have said - VX contributed to a repair bill of mine approx a month out of warranty (in fact they paid 100%) so would certainly suggest contacting them

I would phone your local dealer or the one you bought it from and ask then to look into getting some of the costs back as its only just out of warrenty. If they do the least you can expect back is 50%. Most of the time they pay more like 70%

Mine is 4 years old now and they are still covering costs for me - 60% last time as the rad mounts went.

100% give VX a call. I would expect them to help out.

thanks for all the feedback lads,

OK first of all i bought the car from a dealer in leeds (im from newcastle) and it was not a Vauxhall dealer.
I was unaware that vauxhall would contribute to the funds of the repair.

I handed the car into vauxhall and all the problem was the engine management light HOWEVER when the car returned i drove it for less than 2 hours and the engine management light came on and the car conked out.
I am unaware if this is because of the fly wheel.

Does anyone know the number i need to contact vauxhall on for these specific issues? It is a real headache and i am losing out on alot of money as i need the car for work as i am self employed and am renting a car until this i sorted.

Just contact your local dealer who looked at it and ask them what sort of chance you have of VX helping towards the costs. if its got full VX service thats a plus point too, although just a fully stamped book is also good. If they don't know what your on about or just look stupid then ask for VX customer care number. It may even be on their website.
