    Unhappy Warrenty - am i covered ?

My air-con dosn't seem to be as cold as it was last summer, even though i've run it every month as recommended.

If theres a fault, would this be covered under the manufacturers warrenty as the car is just over 2 1/2 years old ( 3 years end of July) ?

If this problem isn't covered, does anyone know what it'll cost to fix ?( presume it might just need re-gasing ).

Yes and no, if it's just gas leaking they will blag you nothing is wrong and they cant find a leak, if the system has holes in it and they admit it has then you should get a fix for free, but having had mine go twice in a yr and still no reported leaks I think Vx is pulling a fast one here, I think they know they have a problem and are putting ten quid of gas in until the car runs out of warrenty each time, then it becomes your problem not theirs, I'm now running mine twice a week because the service guy has advised it, shame Vx dont in the manual.

Right, had a word with local VX dealer regarding warrenty cover on the air-con and i'm non the wiser now !

Basically i've booked it in for a week on friday ( they can't do til then) where they'll have a look and advise me as to if theres a problem.
    Prepared to be confused !

This is the bit i don't get..............
If it's covered by the warrenty it'll be fixed, if it's not covered - it'll cost me £99 for an 'air-con service'.

The car will be 3 yrs old on July 16th so it should be covered, but they are not sure !!!

All i wanted to know is "IS IT COVERED AS IT ISN'T 3 YRS OLD YET?"
Why can't you ever get a straightforward YES or NO ?

    Straightforward NO!

But it might be sorry i know that looks like a p take.

What it is is this, some of the aircon is covered and some isn't, guess which part of yours will be faulty?

What I can tell you is they won't re-charge the gas for free if they find no leaks, if they do find leaks depending on where it's coming from will decide if its covered or not, much more than that i can't help, Vx makes the rules, but if they should say it's got no leaks you need to take one of two options

1 - Keep a reg check on it and see if it like mine evaporates again 6 mths later

2 - Ask them not to re-charge it, and take it to an independent aircon place and ask them to leak test it, they may find a leak that Vx has also found but decided to blag you with a top up instead of fixing it until you aren't covered anymore when the tab comes down to you to replace a condeser etc.

Option 3 that I've just thought of is to get a comma DIY kit for about £20 and re-gas yourself, you won't know if it has a leak this way, but it will be a cheap fix in future.

    hth.

Perhaps their psychic abilities aren't up to scratch.

Bad joke: I heard that the Psychic Fair in [add your own town] was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.

They've got to inspect it before they can diagnose the problem. Once they have made a diagnosis then they will be able to tell you whether it's covered by warranty.
