    Default Road Tax and Foreigners

Having just returned from the Continent I noticed that in Austria and the Czech Republic I had to purchase a road tax vignette at £5(ish) for one week for each Country.
The taxes are of course much higher for goods vehicles using their roads.
Why dont our Government do the same here and charge foreign vehicle drivers to use our roads thereby increasing revenue without having to nick more out of our pocket?

If memory serves, there is a standingagreement with EU partners that allows us to drive over there and them over here on local taxes. However I recall that Austria has a slightly different type of membership. That may also be the case with the Czechs.

I think most Countries have a slightly diffent type of membership mate...
It usually involves them getting all the benefits and us paying for them!
