    Default Insignia Rear Camera

Has anyone fitted a rear view camera to the number plate light yet to see the rear of the car as I was looking to do it to ours as I can never see the rear end or how far back I can go

You would certainly need a low level mounted camera for a parking aid IMO.

Bumper or number plate positioning would probably give the best rear view.

Let's remember it's a "parking aid", rather than a "dash cam".

I fitted mine at the top of my number plate - from there the wire was easy to feed into the boot to connect to the reversing lamp wire (green/white) and feed the video wire to the front cabin.
The view is perfect and I can get within 6" of any obstruction/object/car behind.

The camera is only part of the installation.

You will also need something to display the output from the camera on, with a suitable input to accept the camera signal.

This is the setup on the facelift insignia, perfectly centred but discreet

I positioned my slightly different style camera in the same place.

    IMG_20151130_110047.jpg

From there it was easy to feed the wires down the back of the bumper and then through the grommet into the boot - the grommet is the one used for the rear light wiring.

I connected the camera power to the green and white reversing light wire found in the opening on the left where the rear fuse box is, and fed the video wire into the front of the car under the carpet.

I then fed the video wire up the side pillar by pulling off the door rubber, and using a feed rod fed it through to come out in front of the rear view mirror.

The monitor is built in to the rear view mirror (which also has a built in front camera and records front an back views constantly - it also has bluetooth hands free and sat nav built in).

In the photo of the mirror you can see the reversing view in which is a wheel located under the window shown on the mirror.

Old thread but I'm about to mount a reversing camera just above the number plate on my Insignia estate and was wondering if it will effect the MOT?

The camera is the same as the one shown in this thread.

My Astra-J has gone through 3 MOTs with a number plate camera.

Light output is less than the other numberplate light, but no one has commented on it yet. 4th MOT next week. Finger crossed.

    Looks something like this.
