    Default 3.2 GSI's with reduced bhp/ torque

    Hi,

I'm new here although I have owned a 2003 GSI for a year now. Recently I serviced the car at a vauxhall dealer where an old school friend of mine works. He looked on their system and apparently at some point vauxhall reduced the power and especially the torque on this model as they were eating gearboxes. He checked my ECU and apparently my car was running the original map (I'm not very technical so excuse me if I'm using the wrong terminology ).

I am planning on getting the Regal ECU remap but regardless of that he warned me not to drive it too hard in first gear ......

I thought that maybe this could explain some cars making only 200 bhp or less on the rolling road? I'm pretty sure he's telling the truth as he's been working there for about 15 years and knows vauxhalls inside out.

I'm sure Vx had a problem with the auto gearboxes collapsing, but I wasn't aware it was for every GSi.

Do a search on here for 'Gearbox Problems' and see what threads it picks up.

Thats interesting and might explain why mine and Mark (gsi) only reached 199bhp before having a re-map ?

I'd love to know how to tell the difference... and how to get the "old" map if I have the "new" one...

i know there is a vibration under acceleration in my manual 3.2 . my 1.8 astra is on its 3rd manual gearbox as 2nd gear has fallen apart both times. first was my fault im aware of that. but after the cost of the first i didnt want it to happen again. 2nd time it totally fell apart.

    Hi,

I'm new to the sight so hope this all makes sense,

I have had this issue with the reduced power on my GSI after it went in to the dealers, they could not find a reason as to why I was getting a warning light on my dash so in their infinite wisdom they updated the software on the ECU to try and flush out the problem.

This is where the problem starts, I was told by another dealer that the current software is designed to be more economical and as a result it detunes the cars performance.

And it was a noticeable difference, after many attempts from a more reliable dealer they could not revert the software to the original version and suggested obtaining an ECU from another GSI that had not been updated.

In the end I plodded the 90+ miles to Regal for the EDS remap.
And once done I Flew back home (at a sensible speed of course)

Interesting stuff. Have you had it rolling roaded at all ?? Apart from the remap have you changed the airfilter or got any other engine mods ?(how much for the eds Remap).

To be honest I haven't had it rolling roaded but definitely noticed a difference after VX detuned the car and after the EDS remap, the car feels a lot more responsive and performs better overall. At the mo all I have done is add a K&N panel filer, derestricted the airbox and added at set of Denso Iridium spark plugs.

    The EDS was £350

Looking to change discs and pads nx week and my exhaust next month but still deciding between a Powerflow of the Scorpion Tuner 4. Any suggestions?

I have known a few members have Regal eds maps and none of them have had a rolling road to confirm the figures they quote ?? If i was spending that money i would expect a dyno print out, hence iam not saying mind you that the figure's are not possible.
