Hi there buddy, I live about 10 minutes away from said arena.
As some one has already mentioned there are plenty of chain hotels around the NEC and Airport complex. But obviously they can be quite pricey, but thankfully you've got melmao!
Just outside the arena/airport complex there is the A45 we brummies call it the Coventry Rd ( ya know cuz it goes to Cov lol ) leave the complex then you turn right in a taxi lol on said road towards Birmingham and you will find a multitude of B&B's to choose from in an area called Sheldon. They can be very busy if there are shows on so its worth checking what other shows run the same time as the one you're attending and book early.
And even more luckily for you I have a job interview in Coventry tomorrow so if you like I will jot you down some numbers and post them up when i get home.
If need be mate my offer of a tent in the woods for you and your mates, oh and the ghost of a girl who got murdered in there a few years a go
