    Default 2nd thoughts

    Hi all.
Maybe i am bringing this on myself, but the more i read about these cdti engines the less confidence i have in them.
They seem to be having issues regarding reliability.
Im sure that people complain more than they congratulate something, but the stas show the cdti engine as being the least reliable..?
Our new car will be ready in approx 10days time and im not sure if i can go through the hassles some of you people are having.
Surely not all cdti engines have problems??
Sorry if the post is a negative one..

Which stats? If your talking about thise on this site thats because the majority of people have the 1.9 cdti. Its too small a sample to get excited about. Im suer you will be impressed with your new car.

    Thumbs up CDTi Reliability

    Dont Panic!

I have owned - along with many other members - a number of Vx's with the CDTi engines.

I can honestly say that they are reliable, economical and smooth as any other mainstream diesel engine. You do hear of horror stories with some cars - but this is not the general picture. Some failures are bound to happen - when thousands and thousands of them are out on the roads.

Like anything else mechanical - as long as the engine is serviced properly, driven with respect (Sometimes!) and looked after - you shouldnt have any troubles.

I've had mine for about 6 months now with a couple of minor problems, but nothing that would put me off it.

Wouldn't think twice about having another one.

I agree with all the replies, mine is 2yr old in June and has just passed 70k miles and touch wood I have had no problems either.

Don't worry is my advice. I too would get another without a 2nd thought. (Unless I got a VXR)

    Cheers

I think that it is one of the best diesel engines on the market. Mind you, that is having suffered a Ren-no diesel for 96 000 miles.

My company runs a very large fleet indeed of mostly CDTI engines in Astras and Vectras and suffer very few problems indeed. In fact everyone is really pleased (but to be fair some of them still remember the old F*rd 1.8 diesel engines)

Anyway, where are all these bad reliability stories? I'm on this forum every day and as one who runs a 150CDTI, I would soon take note of it. I simply don't recall any major issues at all. Nothing is perfect and no-one is going to be prompted to write a thread saying "I have had no problems with my engine", are they? Maybe we should do so and redress this imaginary balance
