Default Wood5tocks ICE Thread - Image Heavy

I wanted to upgrade the existing CCR 2006 for something a little more modern. I looked around and really liked the though of a double din unit with the "Car Play" iPhone interface along with the other input, outputs, and modes etc. Researching done and I decided to go with the Pioneer SPA DH120. I also looked into a decent fitting/facia kit and after a lot of searching on here I plumped for the Celsus kit.

    So now for the install

The original CCR 2006 in situ

First off removing the four T8 Torx grub screws to reveal the holes to insert the removal tools.

Then removing the Torx screw at the rear of the OE cage

A bit of distorting and the cage is loose

There is very little space behind the cage as the frame in the dash in which the cage and HU slide into is right up against the heater/Air Con box. Luckily there is a nice void behind the climate control box, which was removed.

Whilst we are at this point its worth mentioning that the CCR 2006 has the conventional aerial plug NOT a FAKRA type plug. The only reason I mention this is I was miss-sold this adaptor which meant I had to go back and swap it having just got to this stage! The correct adaptor for this Vectra (2004 pre face Elite) and HU at any rate is an Autoleads PC5-27

With the OE HU removed the next step was to plumb in all the ancillary items such as Bluetooth mic, GPS module etc.

Bluetooth mic installed and cable hidden up the drivers A pillar

Next the GPS module, which was going just behind the sensor in the centre of the dash. A quick examination of the central dash speaker mount revealed the hole for the speaker wire and a neat way through between the centre air vent ducts. I ran a piece of curtain wire through to which I taped the plug for the module and carefully pulled it back through. I find curtain wire or taught is perfect for this over more conventional wire threading tools as it's supple enough to curve and bend but stiff enough to get through places without damaging any internal components.

I cut a small piece out of the central speaker cover to allow for the module cable and mounted it on the dash

With the ancillaries done it was time to test fit the fitting kit. The Fitting kit choice was important as I wanted it to look as factory as possible. I had seen various kits and more importantly the facia that came with it. I kept coming up with the same kits which just didnt look right, either too flat/square or worse, advertised as Vectra ones but blatantly an Astra style with the pointed front/middle. Some in depth searching on this wonderful forum revealed the perfect facia. Thanks to @ThatAudioBloke and his aftermarket parts list the kit I went for was the Celsus AFK4122.

Not to mention that the guys at Sound Evo in Watford got it in for me within 24hrs

Next was to sort the PC99-X45 ISO cable and the PC99-PIO steering wheel control patch leads and tuck them into the void behind the climate control box. The instruction were fine apart from they neglect to tell you how to run the switched live feed from the OE connection block. Figured it out in the end though

Et Voila! I even made myself up a Vx splash screen for the start-up screen and main screen.

    And in Car Play mode

As a temporary solution I have run the iPhone USB lead down the length of the centre console where it pops out from a whole drilled in the end of the centre cup holder.

I am working on a permanent solution using the other type of uncovered tray with a "fixed dock style" connector rather than a hole and a lead. There is also a USB flash drive under there plugged into the other USB lead supplied with the HU which currently holds my entire collection with room for more

Hope you like it so far...

Looks good and the only surround and fit I have seen that looks good. All the others I have seen poke out and dont look right.

You could have left the GPS antenna under the grill so a more stealth install.

Have you thought a 'Dock' in the lid of the arm rest (Again out of sight)

As I said on the other thread that looks good. I stuck my GPS receiver to the roof under the headlining using the silver sticker that comes with the head unit.

I did think of having the module inside the dash as you suggested @lee gsi but I read many posts on forums saying yes you can, no you should have it in clear view of the screen, blah blah blah, that I decided to go safe for now. I could easily hide it though without any real problems so I may do in the end.

Thought of mounting it on the roof to @HarrysDad but again for the same reasons as above, plus because this took more time with the aerial adaptor faff I couldn't bring myself to plumb it up around the A pillar and head lining

Cracking job, also as @Lee gsi said though, you can hide the GPS under the centre speaker cover (I've got two of them stuck in there myself - one for the nav, and the remote speaker/gps for my dashcam)

They're not as sensitive to placement as they're made out to be The Celsus fascia is still the best one for the vec imo, glad it worked out for you

Ahh you've twisted my arm inside the dash it shall go then

Thanks once again for you audio connections list, it's been a real help
Also forgot to answer @lee gsi question with regards to the dock location. I did think of that but I figured under the arm rest is better suited to bits n bobs, plus the cubby is more phone shaped and the mods I am currently doing to the donor cubby mean I can easily view my phone and slide it in and out to connect, rather than have to turn lift 'n' faff.
