    Default peeling paint!

hey all I was polishing the car this weekend and noticed that the paint on the rear bumper has cracked and started to peel about 4" above the exhaust. It's an 06 sri in greyand i wandered if anybody else had the same problem as vx are saying that it has had a quick repair and it hasn't took. I dosn't look like it has been hit as it's just peeling away. any known defects???

Don't know about any known defects, but if it's still inside the first 12 months of warranty then paintwork is covered - as long as it's not related to any damage causing it.

Thats what i thought but vx say that the car has been bumped because there is a loose screw on the bumper (apparently) i can't find it. Might try a differant dealer. star city in erdington see what they say.

hi mate..im a painter to trade..all new cars come with 3year paint and body warrenty..but if it has been bumped and repaired by the dealer that you bought it from..you will find that the repairer also gives a 3year warrenty on repairs and paint work.
paint peeling is down to the surface not being rubbed down properly before the primer or basecoat it applyed.if its just the laquer that is peeling this can be caused by many diffrent things.
at the end of the day someone is responsible for it..and it should be fixed free of charge.
hound the place you got the car from mate.

Nope, Vx is definitely only a 12 month paint and trim warranty. Their anti-perforation warranty is six years, but that's different to paint.

Go to the garage that supplied your car and kick off!
The sale and supply of goods act says that a product must be of merchantable quality. A car thats less than a year old should not have peeling paint regardless of why it has happened. ie not merchantable quality!
Dont let them get away with it....stick to your guns.
Pursuing a claim through the small claims court is very easy, so point out to them that if you end up paying to repair your paintwork then this is the course of action you will take.

Been to see mr arnold clarks general manager and he swears that the car has not been in a bump as it has been a company car for the last 7 months. he has told me that they will take pictures when it's in for service next week and they will sort it with vx. so we shall have to wait and see but definately will not be backing down.
