Default Vectra-C.com is now SSL enabled

For a long time, I've been meaning to look at SSL enabling vectra-c.com to add another layer of security on the site for our users.

Yesterday I finally got round to purchasing the necessary SSL certificate and configuring the web server to utilise it and I have today switched the site over to use SSL on the forums.

So, what does this mean for you?

Not much realistically, the only visible difference you'll actually notice is that the address for the forums is now https:// instead of http:// and you'll see a nice padlock symbol verifying the sites security in the URL bar (different browsers show this in different ways).

However from a security standpoint it means communication to the site is encrypted, passwords, logins and changes to your profiles are now done securely and not sent in plain text as before.

We also hope this "may" (and no guarantees here) have a positive impact on the Paypal issues, but we may need to make some small amendments to that before it makes any difference.

VBulletin isn't really rigged up for SSL use so it's possible there may be the odd thing that doesn't work correctly that I've missed during the re-configuration, if you spot anything that seems to be malfunctioning or missing since this change, please let me know.

So that's why I keep getting the annoying pop up saying

    "Only secure content is displayed."

Dammit I can't get rid of it

    Internet Explorer and Vista here.

I'm up with the times mate I use an up to date laptop for all Vauxcom work because it has a decent battery.

However the laptop I use for the forum is an old one, and now this is another PITA to have to overcome

The reason you're getting that message @Woody apart from the fact you're using Internet Explorer (seriously you should dump that and use a decent browser), but that there are some images on the site (most beyond our control) that are not hosted on https sites, the best example I can see is your own signature image. Unfortunately IE is a pain in the arse when it comes to secure sites and non-secure content mixed.

If you really must use IE, then you may find the information in this link useful https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2625928

Good work Ian, always best to be over secure, esp online. Always better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it
