    Default Strange engine noise

    Hi,

Its hard to explain this one, but i'll try.

Say, for example, you are approaching a roundabout and have to slow right down to 5-10mph, if I try to get going again in 2nd gear - my car moves OK but makes all these squeaks and noises. It makes the same noise should you try and accelerate from low(ish) rev's in most gears too.

I understand that it is probably finds it hard, but surely a new, quite powerful engine with 14000 miles should be able to cope without sounding 20yrs old. My girlfriends 1.2 Corsa does it no problem.

Its a 2006 06 2.2direct if thats any help. Someone said it is noisy because its chain driven.

The chain will make no difference, they're only noisy when worn out, something your engine isn't!!..really, the 2.2 makes it's power right up the rev range, and making it pull from 5 mph in 2nd is really being unfair to it..i'd never ask any car to take that..it's a big heavy car and the engine is only really at tickover..what you can hear is no doubt the engine mounts complaining a bit as they are asked to take up quite a bit of strain..

    Thanks for your reply Mark.

I don't do it all the time, it just with this recent heat i've had my window down more and seemed to notice how noisy the engine is compared to my old 1.8 astra.

Sometime when your going to fast to put it back in first, or to slow to put it in second, its unavoidable! Know what I mean??

Sounds to me like you need more revs, the engine is probably just above its stall speed

Drive it like your old 1.8 Astra, and you'll be fine.
As already said the power is right through the rev range.
Mine isn't particularly stunning from a roll at 5-10mph,but when it gets a good head of steam through 3rd,that's when the difference in a 2.2 compared to a 1.8 is most noticeable. For Instance.......
When on the motorway and a diesel wants to show off his torque to me by pulling away after heavy traffic,or a jam,i simply just let him,as i won't have that kind of pull in the lower gears,then.....I catch them up and depending on the motor I sometimes give them a good spanking for their trouble!!!
A certain Honda Accord CDTI on the way back up north a few weeks ago, would be more than happy to confirm that !!
We were fortunate enough to finally end up on a straight together, and considering his earlier showing off,he was surprised that i was then able to tell him, that he had a build up of wax in his left ear 'ole
1st and 2nd are for getting up out of the chair,3rd on are for sprinting to the fridge before the last chocolate hobnob
    is massacred by the wife
