i have fitted hids to a facelift 2006 1.9 cdti. i got a kit frim hids4u.co.uk, you have to have a ballast that has built in filters (or fit a capacitior) otherwise the bulbs flicker, also a resistor and a relay are needed to fool the on board computer for the filliment failure alarm. otherwise well worth doing. i went for 6000k colour and thats just about right. Access wise on the CDTi all you need for the near side is to pull out the washer bottle neck, and for the offside you need to remove the airbox (just remember to plug in the airflow meter when you put it all back together).
in the end a great result and well worth it.

this is a copy of the info off the website i got mine from, the resistor is 1ohm and is connected across the bulb supply via a relay when switched off.

'This is a special kit that is exclusive to HIDS4U Ltd - designed for all cars post 2002 including the following:
    All 2000 on Volvos inc XC90, S60, V40, V70 etc
    Mk 5 Astra
    Corsa C
    407
    Saab 9-3 2002 on
    BMW E90, E60, E46
    Vectra C
    Sigmumn

We recommend this kit for all the above cars in particular. It is also a good choice for any new car - newer than 2002

After months of working with a specialist manufacturer we have
finally produced a kit that is designed specifically for new cars and problem cars. This kit will work with your car - with day light mode, no additional load resistors needed, no external filters, no damage to any electrical equipment, no bulb alarms with lights on or off, no flashing lights - and shutting down with engine running.

This kit has all filters built in and with its special and unique ballast design works on those problem cars like Mercedes and Volvo - these 2 cars limit the amount of power that is supplied to the headlight - and hence normal ballasts will shut down. The HIDS4U Ultimate overcomes this with the micro processor controlled soft start and as a result the current draw is limited to a minimum and the car does not see the Xenons and does not cut power to them! This unique feature also prevents damage to the electric circuit boards and other components that can occur with other kits (this is the case on the new A3 and Peugot 407)

Due to the specialist ballast this kit is provided with a separate starter.

The latest version of this kit now comes with 46mm long H7 bulbs (shortest available) and the kit can also be used on the main beam.'
