nice places in scotland to visit

have any of you guys got any idea where is nice in your country for a few nites as looking for somewhere to go, basicaly wana drive up there and do some site seeing and stop over in a travel inn, missus never been up before, i only been up to work years ago, any help will be a god send,

Blimey - where to start!!

West Coast is stunning, going into Fort William area and further up. Highlands are just as stunning. Depends what you want to do when you're there? - walking etc.

Having moved from Scotland over 25 years, I've forgotten half of the places to recommend. I'm sure the local guys will be along to help shortly.

Yep, the west coast is stunning, up to loch ness to look for the monster, across to Skye for a look, stunning out that way ...

so far just looking at not to deep into the wilderness as have a 8wk old baby and only 2 days to do it in, any area's i need to stay clear off etc.
would like some history but also some shopping too so a city would also be ideal, ie :- glasgow, aberdeen, and they have to have a premier travel inn...half decent comfort and familiarity for the boss and little unn..

I would still do Loch Ness, it isn`t in the wilderness, well no more than the rest of the place *lol* , you could then stay in Inverness, great for shopping. The west coast is stunning ....

i can't find a travel inn or local b&b with rooms up there, not for less than £100.00 a night anyway, will keep looking.
any more ideas ?

If you want site seeing, scenery and shopping why not consider Glasgow and Loch Lomond, I am sure there is a travel inn/lodge not too far from the bottom of the Loch near Dumbarton, giving you easy access to the Loch and the new visitors centre there, and only half an hourish drive into Glasgow.

Also as you are driving from Nottingham with a new born, not too far a journey either, the highlands are a bloomin longway. My girlfirends mother lives in Golspie and that is a heck of a journey

if you fancy edinburgh excellent hotel Belford menzie about 10 mins walk from shops and pubs 1st cLass and not to expensive.

You might prefer some of the off-the-beaten track roads

Loch Lomond is nice, but continue up to Faslane then over to Douglas
This road is a great challenge!
Eventually you rejoin the main road to Oban A82
Oban, Fort William, then on to Inverness

From Inverness take the A9 down to Carrbridge, then follow signs to Braemar A93
Once over the Cairngorms, head to Aberdeen

Follow the coast road down to Dundee
You can then either continue down through Fife (Tay Bridge Toll southbound) and over the Forth Road Bridge (no Toll southbound)

Swap routes for Edinburgh / Glasgow accordingly, whether you come up the A1 or M74

As for Travel Inn, I assume you get a Whitbread discount, so you will need to book at least a week in advance
