    Default 1.9 CDTI 150 Engine

Had the car now for a month, and i was really loving it.
Last weekend i went to drop the wife off one evening, and made the most of the quiate roads and fine late evening weather. Did not take her to far though.
Nowim conviced there is alot less power, especially when the turbo should be assisting the engine. I can here the turbo sucking in,but does not seem to be giving as much boost. Especially in high gears, i have to change down to 5th to pick up from 50-60 ish. Has anyone got any ideas? Is it me getting used tothe power and convincing myselfits something its not? or have i bu**ered it?

    Help

Hi mate, same engine as mine, done around 14k since I got it and although it takes a few weeks to get use to driving it with the turbo and sixth gear etc, havent really noticed any difference in speed or acceleration. To put your mind at rest it may be worth test driving another Vectra with the same engine to compare against yours. When I floor it from around 50-60 I can easily stay in sixth gear and accelerate fairly quickly.

Surely 50mph in 6th you're only going to be at about 1400rpm. The engine probably will take a few seconds to pick up from such low revs. I only use 6th on the motorway as it's so leggy.

That's what I was thinking. It's been a while since I've driven a Vec with that engine, but I'd have thought to pick up quickly from 50-60 you'd want to be in fourth - not sixth!

If I was driving at 50 I'd be in 4th. Probably slot it into 5th at 60ish to maintain hush. The diesel has very tall gearing with 6th being about 35mph per 1000rpm, iIrc.

yes, simonli has it spot on with how my 1.9 is. Theres nothing below 1500, and then you hear the turbo and between 1500 and 2k its starts to pick up nicely, then at around 3K it absolutly flies before dropping all its power just before the redline.

Although its a diesel and has enough torque, its not a magic machine... it still needs some revs.

6th for me is pure cruising gear. On a 60 road i'll still drop it to overtake. Just go by the rev counter not the gear your in.

Duncan - believe me 5th gear is enough to accelerate at 50mph. Diesel torque power! Unless you really need to go for it.

Standard is more than powerful enough, in my opinion.
