Default SRi XP CDTi 150 Estate Towing????

Does anyone tow with thier 150 CDTi with the XP and 19's on?

I'm thinking of getting the estate version, with towing pack, which gives ESP and Trailer Stability (Don't know what this is??) but you don't get self leveling suspension due to the 19's.

I'm towing a Brian James Trialer with my 1000kg Race Car, total weight around 1300kg.

Will the 19's catch on the rear arches under load?

Is the 150 CDTi man enough?

isn't the tow hitch got a max limit of about 75 kg for the nose weight of what ever your towing? Stand on the ball and see how low it goes..... no different to putting a big load in the boot isn't it?

At 1300kg's you will have no problems at all. heres a pic of both my past Vectra's both on 19's and hooked up to caravan.

First pic is of my 04 reg SRi 1.9 CDTi 150 and a 1420KG caravan and the second picture is of my last one hooked up to my new 1455kg caravan.

19's had no issues at all. and the 150 engine is more than up to it.

Hi thanks very much for the info.

Can I just ask what the nose weight of your caravan is?

I've never tested the nose weight of my trailer, as I just tow with a Navara pick up and weight isn't an issue at present but maybe with the Vectra.

My trailer has quite and long A frame coupling so the heavey part (the car Engine as its a front engined Rover Tomcat race car, is fairly back from the actual nose, I guess at least 1M maybe a little more.

Looking at your caravan you have a front locker, presumably for gas bottles and a bike on the hitch area too, which I guess adds weight to the nose???

Also did you got for the tow pack on both cars, how does the trailer stability system work?

I have towed the car a trialer with an Astra Van 1.9 Deisel in the past, not really the best but it managed, so I'm not too worried about the power and I guess there is more stability as the kerb weight of the cars is higher.

I think car and trialer combo will be around 1400 - 1500kg.

You will have to experiment a little with the exact position of the car on the trailer to get the required nose weight.

    Nose weight is 75kg's

The towpack on the Vectra XP is no real use as most of the functions are not used due to not having self levelling suspension etc.

Niether of mine have tow pack, I just fitted the vauxhall detchable system to both the cars.

But the retractable towbar that you get on the estate with the tow pack is soooo cool how it swings out from under the bumper
Maybe a bit sad, I know, but I think it's cool

You don't get the self leveling rear suspension with the XP (How does this work does it pump the rear shocks up?) but you do get ESP with the Tow Pack and also you get trailer stability thing, how does this work?

you don't get the self leveling suspension as it's got sports suspension (being an sri).
I thought that it was worth having the towing pack as you get a great towbar that swings out from under the bumper by pulling a lever in the boot. Also you get ESP Plus and Traction control, and Trailer stability programme.
ESP Plus and traction control can be purchased as a package on it's own at a cost of £400 iirc. That makes the cost of the towing pack (£700) seem a bit more reasonable.
As I understand, the Trailer Stability Program kicks in when the car detects any sway in the trailer, and will start to bring it under control by varying throttle and brake application.

    Hope this helps a bit

    Paul
