Default 3.0ltr V6 Cdti Signum engine warm up time

    Hi all,
I have only had my Signum a couple of weeks and it is a 2003 car. I did y it from vauxhall as a networkQ car.
The thing is that I have noticed that the engine takes a long time to warm up from cold. I know the temp guage only starts showing from 70deg but 25 mins for it to start moving seems a lot.
I drive from my house to the motorway on my way to work. This is normal town driving, stop start, and the needle is only just starting to move when I hit the motorway. This seemes a long time and I sropped in at vauxhall on friday. They have booked it in to have a look but the responses I was getting didn't seem to promising.
They have said that they dont expect to find anything? They will put it on the diagnostics but it probably wont show anything? I hope they arent going to charge me for this??
The other thing that I noticed is that if I put the heaters on the temp will drop by aprox 5deg and stay there?? It looks to me like the thermostat may be at fault.
My question is, how long does it normally take your 3.0ltr CDTI Signum to warm up from cold with normal driving. Not going straight onto the motorway (this would take longer anyway).

    Regards

    Kev

I put my wife to work this morning, 10 minutes in heavy traffic each way, I noticed when I got home the temp guage hadn`t moved. It isn`t a 3.0 cdti, but gives you an idea ??

AGES!!!!! I've not got a signum, but i think the 3ltr in general takes an eternity to reach operating temperatures. i think it's normal though.

I have a 2.5 mile/20 minute drive to work, and the gauge is barely moving on a cold morning by the time I get there, so yours doesn't sound unreasonable. The 3.0 engine's a big lump of metal to warm up.

    Many thanks for the replies.
I think that I may call vauxhall to cancel the check as it is probably not worth hassling them.
I will be calling the garage where I got the car from though as they did a full service on it before i collected. Which was only about 600mls ago.
Sat morning the oil light came on and I topped up with 2ltrs??

Mine takes ages to warm up too, just a big thick engine block that needs a while to warm up.

As for the oil? I wouldn't have topped it up with out going back to them to show them, or at least calling them first. Mine does not use any oil, I've covered 5000 miles since getting it.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

The thing was I live in the north west and was driving down to Walsal. The oil light came on and it had to be topped up. I used the same oil as they put in the service manual. It states that they used 10w 40 for most of the servicing. That is what I topped up with to. I didnt have any numbers with me so didnt think about ringing them. The vauxhall garage that i bought the car from was in Oxford and I live in Blackpool. So a trip to see them was a no go.
I will have to keep a keen eye on the oil to see if it uses any, if it does then I will be onto them.
    Thanks

    Kev

    Hi Kev,

When I bought mine it was under a year old & 11,000 miles on it. It seemed to use some oil at first & I had to top it up after a month or so. Thing is it hasn't burnt a drop since, a year on! Don't know if it's got something to do with it having been stood around for a while at the dealers, but I don't understand why.

I've had a 1.8 Active and now a 2.0T and neither of them has burnt any oil. If that's a problem, then I'm a chinaman. Good job as decent oil don't come cheap.

    Hi Wardy,
Well its good to hear that the oil usage should be very low on these cars The B3 that i had used to use 1ltr every 800mls at a cost of around £15 per ltr.
I am starting to think that the dealer who serviced it either didnt do it, or didnt do it properly. If a YTS lad did the job he probably drained everything. Fitted new filters etc and then topped up to the correct level without running and then re-checking? Nothing against YTS trainees by the way, its improper training that is the problem.
If there is a problem then it would point towards turbo/rings/valves. There arent any leaks as I have had a good look already

    Thanks

    Kev
