top job that man - glad to be of service
one word IJG.... GENIUS...last 2 days stripping inside of car lookin for the bas**rd RESISTor...if the cops had arrived i would have RESISTed arrest....had a brainwaveDOH!check internet...that was at half 6 and had the wee bas**rd resistor sitting beside me at quarter to seven...you'll be a mechanic when you grow up thats for sure...LOL...good job
Thanks to finding this website and looking up the symptoms of my blower failure I was able to at least clear my pollen filter / inlet drain to stop it happening again.
I very rarely use carwashes, but I suspect now that my special £8 wash on Friday caused the flooding of my early (2004) blower unit and subsequent failure. The fact that the blower speed became G-force sensitive and then failed in a plume of smoke seems to confirm water had a part to play in its failure.
By the way I have climate control which masks some of the symptoms.
Thanks again
Had fault investigated.
Blower behind glove box. Resistor appears to be under blower inline with a plug housing.
It was full of water and burnt out.
Have written to Vauxhall asking why the drain isn't cleared when the pollen filter is changed upon servicing. Its obvious a critical action which isnt covered in the user manual either.
Guys
A mechanic friend of mine done pretty much all of the above and have the resistor plug hanging down atm behind the glove box as the first resistor I bought didnt work - so I got it changed today - plugged it in 2nd and still nothing.
Anything else I can try?
I have exactly the same issues
Blower clicks when you swith it on from 0 - 1 nothing on 1 - 2 or 3 and fully working on 4 - also fully working on front screen demister? I am struggling and the good lady is getting cold.
Hope some can advise
if the resistor is okay ( and you can check the new one with a multimeter) then i'd be looking at dodgy wiring....
have you tried substituting the heater control panel?..
Help please.
Just read this and a few other threads relating to the same problem which I fell foul to on saturday, my problem is that there is no resistor pack where everybody else has found it, I have a 2002 sxi 2.2 c.
Does anybody have any ideas as to any other locations it might be, have spent 4 hours looking behind the glovebox (removed) and the audio unit and I have also removed the heating control unit but cant find a bean.
Another thing that happened (before I removed everything) was the heater knob stopped working (was doing the nothing on 1-3 then full blast on 4) now nothing, but the fan does work as you can turn the demist setting on and it blows as it would on 4.
Please help, im going deaf trying to keep warm.
PS. Hello everybody
Ah ******, forget that last message everyone.
I found it, didnt realise you had to yank the dam thing out
Now all i got to do is find someplace that sells them up in Newcastle and see whats wrong with the heater switch, called 8 places so far, nobody does them, must be a stealership only item.
ijg - I'm experiencing the same probs as you were so I was very pleased to read your success in repairing and that has given me a little more confidence to have a go myself.
With regards to possible leaks causing the probs, how do I check for leaks and (I know I sound like a complete noob!) where/what are "scuttle trays"?
Thanks
I had mine in to the stealer on 4 separate occasions for the exact same fault. 1st time they diagnosed the resistor (wife works for VW dealer and told me the same but the motor would have caused it as it was sticking intermittently)
2nd time they replaced the resistor
3rd time they replaced the resistor again, even after voicing my concerns
4th time they replaced the resistor and when they rang me to tell me it was ready and what they had done I went ballistic and asked to speak to their 'technician' (very loose term) I asked if his kettle kept blowing fuses would he just keep replacing them? he finally got the message and said he would do the motor as well.
Took over 4 weeks in all due to them insisting on having it back between each visit for a diagnostic check.
Complete shower of incompetent ****e, I rang VX customer care after the first visit complaining about the lack of spares carried on the shelf, I mean come on ffs its a heater motor from one of the most common cars on the road, it's hardly going to be there for long! VX were not interested in the slightest and just kept telling me they had no influence on how dealers stock their shelfs. She bleated on about care this and care that but after a good 5 minutes in the phone I asked why she never even asked what dealer it was!! The VW garage where the wife works (private dealership) does something called predictive ordering on all booked in faults (obvious parts ordered in advance). VX reckon they had never heard of it.
I will never darken there doorstep once it's out of warranty.
Next cars going to be a Honda or a VW.
