    Default Vent colour texture

    54 reg life model

    Question:
My 03 SRi vents are a darker colour and covered in a vinyl type texture. The silver strip along the doors and dash is like the colour in pictures and has a more harsh painted type texture. So can I remove the yinyl texture and paint them like in the picture or like my silver strip. I hate the vinyl as it has peeled in a couple of places and looks old being dark.

The gear surround and ash tray area on my car is darker then the steering wheel silver and strips but this doesnt look so in the pics of the car above. What colour match are the vents above in relation to the rest of the dash and could I spray mine? If so what colour and paint type?

Any help would be appreciated as I dislike this old look my car has. Should be a cheap fix as well.

I'm considering spraying mine too as it would be far cheaper (and more fun) than buying some others.
Not too sure on the colour though, I thought about Star Silver (as I have it already) and it would contrast well with the silver dashboard strip.
If it looked rubbish, I could alrways re-paint them or buy some more!!
I will try to get into Halfrauds shortly and select a suitable couour if I decide against Star Silver

Further to this, does anyone know what I can clean the vents with prior to spraying? They have been covered in dash bright in the past! I take it plastic primer would be required?

    Cheers,

Are yours not coated in a rubber plastic which can be pilled off? Having another look I would like the colour the same as the steering wheel and silver strips, anyone have a good guess @ the colour?

I got home early and had a go at painting one of my vents. I used an alcohol wipe to remove any residue and then primered it with Folia Tec interior plastic primer. I let it dry and then painted it with my Halfrauds Star Silver paint. It looked nice, but then some odd cracks started appearing . I think I will get the correct parts now and give up the DIY....

I like your speed and pic taking, but with regards the cracking did you remove the vinyl coating as paint will not stick to it. Maybe yours doesn't have the vinyl so not sure why it hasn't stuck.

Nice try though and do you know the part no's and prices mate?

I called Vauxhall (LMF) and apparently you can't get the vents seperate from the rest of the dash, you have to buy the complete dash!!

If you can get part number prices let me know!!

Cheers for the comments though, it is a bit of an eyesore on my dash at the moment!!

    Chris

P.S. Didn't realise it wouldn't stick to the 'rubber' type coating...doh!

Try removing the silver paint, then the rubber coating and it will work well. How did the silver look and feel compared to the strips.

Also when you removed the vent does the surround clip off or did you have to mask the wheel and vent flaps?

How would you suggest I remove the rubber coating? I considered it, but the parts are quite intricate and didn't want to sand any edges off etc.

The whole vent comes out of the dash and then the front clips on, a 2 minute job really!
