    Default smokey diesel

    http://youtu.be/GVU4sSLZDU0

Every morning I'm getting this smoke (signum 2.2dti). I've know about the injector seals problem on the dti's, i had that problem on my last car but that was oil getting pulled into the fuel lines causing long cranking. This is different as the oil leaking into the cylinder, hence the smoke, the cranking doesn't seem that bad.

Could this still be the seals.

    Same here
Started fairly recently when the glowplugs went dead, but since changing them it has gotten better, but not gone away
I know my EGR is playing up and causing a little issue, but that wouldn't cause it to smoke upon start up, well, no worse than usual for a DTI

I think that is unburnt fuel, so possibly an issue with glow plugs...

I thought glowplugs at first but they all read 'in spec' when checked with a multimeter (resistance of between 0.3 to 0.5). For the amount of smoke im getting I'd need two or three duff glowplugs and i doubt it would start so easily if that was the case.

Is there a way to check the glowplug control module thing to see if it's working properly?. The engine starts after 1 to 2 seconds of cranking but doesn't run right for the first 5 to 10 seconds, that's for sure. White smoke, extreme tractor noise, occasionally black/grey smoke and lumpyness. After 5 to 10 seconds it clears and runs great and every start up after that (until it's been sat) is great.

I have been to an engine guy today and shown him the video, and he recons the smoke is oil dripping into the cylinder and getting burnt off on start up. He thinks it's the injector seals as the engine isn't common for valve stem seals or valve guides, and as it clears up after a couple of seconds he's feels it's not the valve seals or the valve guides as it would continue to smoke.

But i haven't handed him my wallet just yet as my experience of the injector seals is of air and oil being sucked into the spill pipes and loads of cranking, I don't have these symptoms.

Exactly the same! Symptoms, timing, everything... I drive Vectra B x20dtl... Check Engine light refer to P1220... The problem is not present on temperatures above 10 degrees of Celsius approximately just on cold weather... Some mechanics tell me there's probably problem with glow plugs or some valves not closing as it should be on cold and momentarily after 15-30sec they warms up and do what they supposed to do...
