Default Air Con / Heating to the back seats ?

Got an 06 facelift SRI. It's got tinted rear windows but bog standard air con to the front seats only. If I'd got a design or elegence model then I'd have had heaters to the back seats but couldn't have had the tints . Why can't we have both ?

This is a bad vx fault as is the 'either sat nav/mp3 or dab but you can't have both' problem also

Anyhow the Q is can I put heaters to the back ? I presume it's just a pipe of some sort past the gearbox and then buying some vents to fit in the centre console but does anyone know if it's possible and if the pipe that diverts the air flow to the back on the 'top' models would fit into the SRI ? The kids are wingeing like hell

M8, the pre-facelift SRIs had these as standard, so I would guess that it is possible - shouldn't be that hard either. I don't think there will be any wiring issues, just ducting (if it isn't already there) and the vents themselves.

If nobody has tried it here, have a word with your friendly Vx parts dept and see if they can figure out what's needed.

p.s. I find this annoying too. I would love a facelift SRI, but would need to get the Elite to get all the interior features, but then would have to spend loads to make it look like an SRI! Sometimes you just can't win!

Someone asked about this earlier, so I had a look in my facelift 06 SRi tonight. I can confirm that there is no ducting, and it would be quite a job to put it there based on what I saw around the gear lever (e.g. a metal blanking plate that I couldn't see a way past for any ducting).

There's another thread about this as well:

It would be a major task to do this in the car - I ended buying an Elite because of this problem (as well as funny windy things in the back of an SRI to open the windows). Got my Windows tinted professionally for £160.00 as part of a group buy on this site.

It's half leather in the Elite too m8. Leather facings and plastic on the rest to look like leather.

Took some bits off today and I think you could put some air to the back.

There are 2 ducts that appear to go into the floor behind the gear stick. I lifted these up and I got an air flow, but only when I put the heater to the feet or feet/windsceen. There also appears to be enough room to put a tube through , as there must be for those that already have it.

The problem I then had was how to remove the coin tray above the rear 12v socket and swap it for a vent, it seems to be glued on ? Also I cannot work out how to remove the top of the armrest that swivels

If I buy an elite/design piece for this then I may be in business or even a '55 vent. Just have to find an elite/design to look in now. Took some photos for those that are interested and will upload them as soon as my Billy Joel download has finished

Well I'm interested in those pics. I couldn't see any ducting, but tbh I wasn't looking at the underseat heating. If you can hack into that then I'm keen to see how.

I'm also interested in how it works on other's cars. For those of you with rear vents what setting on the a/c unit provides an airflow?
