Default Radio won't turn on without display?

I took the display out from between the air vents earlier (thanks for the how to rushy!) to see how i was going to go about fitting a photo frame.. I've now found that the radio doesn't turn on without the display being connected! It's an aftermarket radio... anyone know why this is and how i could stop it happening?

i think im right in saying ..but might be proved wrong .....lol........if you remove / discontect the display the engine wont start as it is one of the enviromant identifiers ........... for the immobo system ..... it is a major link in the can bus system on the early cars ...radio on the later one's .....i would say it has too be fitted ....but there may be a way around it but im not to shure how ............

The engine still starts, just can't turn my radio on! lol

I've got the 2 line display which only shows the time and temperature (and date if the radio is off). I'm hoping to replace it..

Perhaps i could try to remove the actual screen but keep the PCB connected behind the photo frame i'm hoping to put in.

it must tell the body control to feed the radio .....all you need is to check the voltage from the bcm (at the radio plug) when fitted and when not and rig your own feed ...
