Talking Traction Control Switch - Result

Reading thru posts for details of TC switch and decided to visit my dealer ,Lookers in Bootle, to order switch.

They found one which had been ordered for someone else and which had not been collected, so they sold it me there and then, and the other bu**er will get his ordered again . Now that must be a first!

Fitted it - works first time. 'Car and snakes' symbol stays on steady on the dash if TC is switched off. Cost - £9.90 + VAT = £11.64

Love these cheap mods, first a bargain Irmy Grille and now this

Mr car is an 04 SRI 2.0T (Edition100). Seems that pre-facelift Vecs/Sigbums with non-switchable TC and the blue contact for the switch are likely to work.

According to the first facelift Vectra/Signum Brochure, all facelifts except 1.8s initially came with Traction Control, so maybe if yours is one of them the switch may work - at least mine does!

Default TC Switch - A clarification?

    I think this makes sense:

The TC switch only DISABLES or RE-ENABLES Traction Control and cannot enable it if it is not there, as appears to be the case with all Facelift models, where TC is only bundled in with ESP which is only standard on V6's.

The switch causes the TC icon to be displayed on the dash and it will remain there until the engine is switched off or the switch is pressed again.

Where TC is present, at start up the TC icon appears briefly and then disappears. This indicates that TC is present and functioning normally.
No icon at start up = no traction control.

If the TC icon is lit whilst driving it indicates either a fault with Traction Control, or that it has been switched off and is no longer functioning, but not faulty. If a switch is fitted, and the switch pressed again and the icon disappears, there is no fault with TC, or it was never there in the first place.

Perhaps the switch causes the TC icon in the dash to display whether TC is present or not, and if not, is disabling something which was never there in the first place.

Am I right in saying that on the facelifts, the switch is designed to disable ESP which includes TC, and in all cases, if TC or ESP is present the default on start up is always ON,so that they can only be disabled or re-enabled using the switch?

    Hope this makes sense.

and TC can only be switched off at speeds of less than 40mph ... when you go above 40 you can switch it back on if it's off but can't switch it back off again.

My car doesn't seem to have ESP either.

Even my girlfriends 1.2 Corsa has it!
