    Default diesel engines

ok, me thick. my only experience of deisel was a 1.7cdti, fitted in the new astra, and i must say it was a gutless old beast, but after reading some of your performance figures, must say i am tempted by the 1.9cdti(150), only today a veccy passed me and had 2.0dti on the back,
what's the difference between dti and cdti?

The dti uses a rotary fuel pump to deliver fuel to each injector. The CDTI uses a common rail whereby a simple 'pressure' pump is used to deliver fuel under pressure to a rail. The injectors are fed from this rail and electronically timed to open at the correct time. Very simply explained but HTH

I have a 2.2DTI, the thing I noticed recently was the CDTI is a much quieter engine.
I am happy with mine, but I wish they did a more 'cost effective' power upgrade option, average price is around £350 - £450.
If you want to up the power, I believe a CDTI is cheaper

Saying that, you would probably pick up a Vec 2.2DTI model for less money
