    Default 2004 1,8 which oil?

    Vauxhall sold me 10w 40.

and the car has been really sluggish since i changed it?

Just been on the Castrol website and they recommend 0w 30

    what should I be using?

    Thanks

0-30 is fully syn, more expensive but lasts longer, 10-40 is semi-syn & cheaper, which is what i use & change more regular.

it is fine to use 10W40 if you change it every 6,000 miles or so..but if you want to leave oil in longer, then use the 5W30..

I have a 1.8 too, I contacted guy at Opie oils and he said that 10w-40 was alright. My car is LPG so tends to use a bit more oil, I use a litre every ~1500 miles so don't bother changing sooner as I use atleast a sumps worth every 10k miles.

Vauxhall dealers need 10W40 beaten out of them. There's no reason why 5W30/5W40 shouldn't be going into everything. 10W40 is wild thick on a cold start (which is most of the time in the UK).
