Default HELP INSIGNIA: Anyone had rear brakes stick on and overheat disks with Electronic handbrake?

    Hi all,
driving down M1 when car started juddering as if it had a puncture. Pulled over onto hard shoulder to find my rears disks were glowing red and smoking WTF! I have the electronic handbrake which must have somehow decided to activate but not enough to stop the car.
RAC came out to rescue me and made sure brakes had released before he followed me home. He was and ex Vauxhall tech from one of my local dealers. He reset/calibrated the rear system using his laptop and I had no issues on way back and it seems that the brakes are working ok again.
He had never came across the issue before so I will call VX Head Office tomorrow as well as get new brake pads, disks and brake fluid from VX as the disks are now a nice blue colour.
I have no warning lights on the dash at any point to tell me anything was wrong so god only knows what's happened.
RAC guy said to make sure my car had all the software updates, which my local dealer had told me they done when it had its MOT in September

Something else to mention to uncle vauxhall - of the disks got that hot, it has probably cooked the wheel bearings too. So new hubs might be a good idea.

The disks were doing a good job of impersonating the sun

Thanks for mentioning the rear bearings @littleteapot, another thing to add to the parts list.

Only problem is I still have no idea why it did this, all I can think off the rear brakes did not release just before I got on the motorway when I had the handbrake on when I was at a roundabout. I am sure it throws up a warning on the dash if this happens

Didnt the insignia's have loads of problems with the rear brakes in the first year? I remember loads of threads mentioning heavy rear pad and disc wear thought to be incorrect calliper release.

The car has been fully serviced, most of them at VX dealers so if there was any recalls etc you would have thought they would have been done. But then we are talking about VX dealers................

Spoke to VX Head office today who confirmed my car has had all software updates and there were no tech bulletins or recalls regarding rear bakes so need to get around to stripping them down and seeing what's what

Took wheel off today to find the outside pads badly worn down, not sure if this was the cause of the issue or had been caused by the issue of the brakes locking on.

Went to get a new set of pads and disks from VX to be quoted £111 plus VAT to me (normal price is £145 plus VAT). I have decided that they can change them as they want £189 all in as its a fixed charge through Masterfit and its cold outside and I am getting too old to be on my knees

Lets see if they find anything wrong when they do them.
