Default 1st MOT and my cruise control's playing up!

My warranty expires on the 18th April -and my MOT's due on the same day.
My cruise control's playing up, too, so I've booked the car in for Monday.
Anyone know what may cause the cruise to not engage/drop out? I recall someone mentioning switches on the pedals.
I'm just hoping the dealer will sort it before the warranty goes away. Has anyone used a private warranty firm? I'm wondering about buying one.

    Questions, questions..........

a common cause for the cruise control is the clutch switch, if its not fully depressed the cruise control wont activate.

mine was due to the clutch pedal spring which became slightly "saggy" and so wasnt bringing the clutch pedal back right to the top. the spring eventually snapped anyway, so i took it to vaux who told there was an upgrade spring for the pedal, which fixed the cruise control problem.

another fault ive read about is the cruise control buttons, which i believe require a new stalk.

as carl said, the clutch spring seems to be the main culprit. try activating the cruise control whilst lifting the clutch pedal right up using your foot. if it works then you've found the problem.

Good advice from Harry, also mine once in a blue moon deosnt activate and a good stamp on the brakes (check you clear behind first - you dont want a rear end like poor old spoons has!) works a treat and the cruise activates with the switch again.

    Thanks, chaps.
It happened on the M20, and I tried pulling up the clutch pedal, but it had no affect. Then it engaged, but the light flickered and it felt like it was dropping in and out. Then it worked for the rest of the journey. I tried it again on Saturday, and, once again, it wouldn't engage at first but then worked.
I'm just concerned that the dealer will just take a brief look, then say he can't fault it....

Mine was doing what yours is. Holding the clutch pedal did nothing. The stealer replaced the stalk and all is well again
Now I need a turbo to keep up!
