    Default 3.0 v6 cdti

i was toying with the idea if changing my car ideally to something german! but since i dont have the money i`ll stay with the vectra, is the 3.o v6 cdti much different performance wise than my current 150cdti would i notice the extra power. i know mpg will be down quite a bit but i only do a 150 miles a week! and insurance will that change much? im paying £500 now i just love the sound of a v6 but dont want expensive running cost

    thanks guys

if you're only doing 150 miles a week then why not get a 3.2 GSi?? you're not getting the benefit out of a diesel. and the 3.2 sounds awesome - especially with a custom exhaust

the 3.0 diesel is alot smoother in comparison to the 1.9, no kick in the back when turbo spools up, just very constant power. only way to really tell is to get a test drive in one.

have you thought about getting the car remapped, if you like the car but just want more power then that is one route to explore. your 54 plate has probably got a fair few more toys than a more recent model, which you may miss if you were to upgrade the car.

just plugged your cars info into the vauxhall glass guide, and it's come back with the following part-ex values:

    excellent condition: £7740
    avergage condition: £6910
    below average condition: £6090

if you were to sell privately i would think you could add £1000-£1500 to that price, although i'm no expert on this matter.

exchangeandmart.co.uk will also give you a good idea of what cars are going for with a similar spec as yours

Edit: I didn't realise the Facelift Elite is 1 group higher than the facelift SRI and also pre-facelift all models ... I wonder what's special about the Elite??

I've had the V6 cdti for just over a year now (05 Plate) and to be honest its Bl**dy great. Running costs was the one thing that attracted me. I usually do very similar mileage to you with 80% of my trips less than 7 miles at a time either to work -2 miles or golf club -7 miles. Based on that alone I get nearly 38mpg on the computer. When I do go out on the occassional longer run ie, 150 miles round trip + i get around 48mpg. Pretty good I think for a 3 litre beast. I've also just had the 1st service (2 year interval) at the stealers on ECO-Flex and it was about £220 all in incl' disc' on the privelage card. Again service costs of around £100+ per year, not bad I thinks!! My opinion - get one quick!

    Default Elite 3.2 v6

My insurance is £331 fully comp with protected no claims, which i think is cheap as chips. I was paying nearly £200 for a Micra last year !

It pays to shop around !

If you're doing less than 8k miles a year then you don't really spend that much more on petrol and i get over 28mpg anyway, which is a mix of all types of driving.

I do quite like the idea of the 3.0v6 diesel, but did also find having a 1.9 150bhp diesel Astra a bit annnoying in the mornings (still get that diesel rattle) and have always preferred the acceleration of a well tuned powerful non turbo engine over a turbo, but i guess this is a perasonal preference thing.
