Advice please

Got a problem with my vectra c. Started yesterday i get a ratling noise sounds like metal on metal from the front drivers side wheel (i think) it only happens when its moving and going over bumps in the road any advice would be helpful cheers.

Firstly, check the brake pads for their thickness, they could be low.... I'm not sure if there is an audible warning fitted to them - a bit of metal that rubs on the disk......

Then it could be the rad mounts or anti-roll bar link arms. Is it worse when its cold or wet? or just constant no matter what the weather conditions?

only a thought but check you havent got a bit of gravel stuck between the disc and caliper. ive had the same problem on acouple of occasions and its boiled down to a small stone grating against the pad and disc

Likewise there's a thin metal plate behind the disc (I think) that acts as a dust / stone cover. This could have been hit by a stone or something & is touching the disc, it can simply be bent back gently.

HI i checked the brake/discs and all seems fine. Got my mate to listen as i drove past over a bump and it sounds more like bushings gone as it rattles when the wheel moves up and down sorry when i said metal on metal like the brake discs its more like 2 pieces of metal hitting each other (sorry hard to describe) got it booked in garage tomorrow will let you know what it was.

Well mate any news??? My car is in the local stealers today with the exact same problem (i think its bushes) going over bumps etc... puts the car into rattle mode, coming from the drivers side front well. I will find out later too

just found out my noise was the steering arm, whatever that does. All fixed now but thanks to the local stealers, oh aye and my warranty!!!!

Hi cant get mine in till tomorrow will sugest they look at the steering arm aswell thank you. Did it still drive ok because apart from the rattle it feels normal?

yes mate, drove normal. I thought it was pulling a bit to the left, but this was very slight, apart from that no problem at all. No vibration or anything, very surprising though as they told me the arm was broken

Yes only had it 2 months took a 3 year warranty out on it why how much did it cost to fix if not under warranty?
