I know this is not a veccy question but hope someone may know an answer out there for a fellow veccy owner! Maybe there's a Spanish Police Officer out there who knows
My brother has a holiday apartment in Marbella and has just bought (january) a new Aston Martin DB9 from Salamanca Motors Marbella. The car has been put on tourist plates to reduce the tax he must pay (20% IVA). He has purchased insurance which covers me to drive it when I am there.
I am from the UK and my brother lives in Baku (Russia) where he works in the oil industry with his own business therefore he is classed as a non-eu resident. I have been down to Spain a couple of times since the car arrived and drove it about etc. My brother has just phoned the dealer to arrange me to take the car in for its courtesy service when I go in May. However the dealer has said that I should not actually be driving the car as it is on tourist plates and only he (my brother, the legal owner) can drive it.
Can anyone shed any light on this and tell me what the dealer on about?
I can find info on the fact that EU Residents can no longer place a car on tourist plates but Non-EU can. However my question is that if a Non-EU Resident (my brother) has placed the car on tourist plates can an EU Resident (me) still drive it legally in spain?
It's all a bit confusing!
P.S. Here is a short vid for all you petrol heads from the last time I went in Feb.
