    Default Sim cards

Does anyone know a mobile company who will provide two sim cards with the same number. (For the car phone)
02 won't. I've put a PAYG in the car and put my phone on divert, but I'd like the same number in both.

I was told Vodafone can for an extra £5/month. How true it is I don't know.
Watch you're not getting charged for your call diverts. I recently changed from a work supplied phone on Orange when I left the company to a PAYG on 3. Orange didn't seem to charge but I used £9 of credit in one evening through one call diversion.

O2 don't do this - I tried last week and was told a firm "no". Can't go anywhere else as it is a company phone

Vodafone definitely do this. You designate which phone/SIM will receive the incoming call, and both will make outgoing calls. I think you can switch the designation easily from the handset with a code.

As Ben said, watch out for your diverts. Normally if you divert from one phone to another, you get charged (on the number/account that is being diverted) as if you'd made the call from that phone - if you see what I mean.

Yep, last time I checked Vodafone do allow you to have 2 SIMs for the same number.

The main reason that I didn't go ahead with it and decided to have a second number was that some of the options/extras available on a normal contract were not available if you gad the number assigned to 2 SIM cards.

As one of the options/extras not available was the International Call Save (which I use frequently) I weighed up that it was not worth going down this route.

However, the last time I checked this was 18 months ago so I would just ask them what you would lose if you have a second SIM card with the same number.

I was looking at doing this when I was with orange
I ran into a few technical problems, especially when I jumped into the car with my Nokia 8310 on, and then turned the car on, then turned the Nokia off
The trick was to turn off the Nokia AT LEAST 2 minutes before switching the car on, and the same when leaving the car
Leaving both units switched off for 2 minutes seemed to solve the problem

I was initially told by orange you culdn't have two SIM cards with the same mobile phone number, but they found I could have two SIM cards with the same IMEI number programmed on to them!
The way I got round this was to report the first was as broken, and I was then sent a replacement with identical phone number and IMEI number!
