    Default speaker upgrade

I would like to upgrade my speakers on my 04 sri. Can anyone tell me how to get to the speakers, do I have to take the door cards off and if so how? Also what is the output of my headunit (I think its a vdo 2005)? sounds very weak 4x25watt? Would like to keep a standard look dash can I fit an amp?

Yes, you need to take the door cards off.

You need to carefully prise off the cover on the door handle. Inside you'll see two screws that need removing. Then at the bottom of the door there are another three (iirc) screws that need removed.

A second person will help here. You need to then lift the card away from door, with the bottom coming out furthest first. You'll hear some pops - that's some fixers releasing the card from door (you'll see them all once the card is off). Then lift the card upwards at the asme time so it unhooks from the lip where the window is.

This is where the second person will help as they can unclip the cable from the speaker and also the wire from the back of the door release lever. This will let you take the door card off completely to work much more easily.

You may find that some of the pop stud things get damaged in the process. They're cheap things from Vx to replace. If you happen to damage the handle cover, that's less than a fiver. Just don't damage the door part of the handle as that's part of the whole door card.

Edit: Also, if any of the pop stud things are left in the door, put them back onto the door card before you put it back as you'll find they pop back in more eaily.

The CDR 2005 is max 20W per channel

anyone got any info on the size of the door speakers?

also, for those who have upgraded their speakers have you also changed the tweeters or have these now been made redundant?

It can be done you will need a line to RCA converter.
Will convert the high speaker outputs to around 4V for amp input.

You would get better sound\control from a non factory unit.

I thought the Elite Vectra or Signum, had an amp connected to the 2006. Is that not the case or does someone know any different.

What about the 7th speaker in the front of the dash, how is that conected? Is it a mono on its own output or a L & R output spliced together?

personally i think the standard speakers are ok.its the headunit that lets it down.ive got a kenwood stereo with my ipod connected and the sound quality is great.
