    Default First DIY Oil change

I recently got a 2003 3.2 v6 Elite and am very impressed and feel it was an excellent used buy @ £5.5K. Glad the car tax didn't go up by too much !

Anyway, i'm getting down to my first oil change and note that the sump plug is a torx screw, i guess T45 ? but am having a bit of trouble finding where the filter is ? I already have a ch 5976 filter unit, but can't see where it is in the engine bay. Appreciate any help in locating it.

Having owned an BMW E36 M3 in the past, as an all round car it compares pretty well. It may not have the amazing acceleration of an M3 or the handling, but neither does it have the amazingly high maintenance and insurance costs and MPG seems much better at 29 mpg for my work journeys compared to 24mpg on the M3. Well done Vauxhall.

just pay a fast fit garage to change it for you, not worth the hassle of diy oil changes imo.

I know what you mean, but peace of mind is a good thing. My wife has a Focus which needs a 5/30 oil and the garage put a 10/40 in which messes up the engine. It was only because a mate mentioned it to me that i checked and questioned it up with the garage, who admitted making an error. Otherwise i would have had a screwed engine a year later !

is the oil filler not a big yellow cap ? im not lucky enough to own a 3.2 but on most cars its a big yellow cap on the rocker cover (or covers on a v6)

the filter unit is in between the engine and the radiator.. you're looking for an ally 'can' sticking out the front with a nut cast onto the end of it...it will be very tight for the 1st few turns..

don't forget to change the 'O' rings on it either..refill it with 4.5 litres of 5W30 fully synthetic oil..

Thanks, that's a great help. The filter box appears to have a o ring included with it so i should be ok.
