    Default swirl valve ?

    Hi,

I,ve a lot of problems with smoke on a warm start up over the last 6 months. It's 150 CDTI, 04 plate. The dealer is running out of ideas and most parts have been replaced. I was looking at the swirl valve control rod next to the glow plugs tonight and noticed they were quite loose. I thought i could see something coming out from under the black part that mates with the inlet manifold. Whilst the car was sightly warm i got a jug of water and poured slowly over the all of them. The water disapeared and steam started to come out of the exhaust and the engine started to run roughly.

This points out to me there is a seal problem or leak there.

Should there be a leak there or should they be air tight??????

many thanks,, hope someone can help....

it only smokes after i have left the car for 2 hours and then its white diesel smoke. It sounds like there is extra unmetered air getting in past these swirl valves... ??

White smoke is unburnt diesel..unmistakeable..it's not a problem with air, it's a problem with too much fuel..so start thinking along the lines over overfuelling/leaking injector or if it clears after a short period, it may need to see a dealer to see if it's overfuelling on the 'coldstart' cycle..

Black smoke- rich mixture- not enough air
Blue smoke - oil - breathers or rings
    white smoke - unburnt diesel

Just had the injectors replaced, second time ! it only smokes after the engine has warmed up and then been left to cool down for a couple of hours.. If the engine has to pre heat it does not smoke, on a cold start no smoke. It's had the EGR fix done on it but still smokes AAHHHHHH !!! I can replicate it by taking the solinoid off the EGR and depressing the EGR valve a little myselve, But i dont really want to be telling the dealers this ! It's had so many parts replaced now i lost count.....

    Help !!
