Default How little damage to write things off these days?

I saw this on the back of a wrecker. It was a 56 reg so should still be worth £10k+ easily and it was off to be scrapped! The only damage although quite bad was only at the rear end. Makes you wonder if you get hit is it worth anything??!!

In the picture you can see all the side panels are deformed... even on the doors

My damage was nowhere near as bad as this and mine was estimated at £3,800

£1,400 was the parts bill and £2,400 labour...

Also bear in mind that on selected Fully Comprehensive motor insurance policies there is a benefit (to those people unfortunate to be involved in an accident) that, if they are the first registered keeper and the vehicle is under 12 months old when they have a claim, if the total damage to the vehicle amounts to more than 50% / 60% / 70% (whichever their particular policy states) of the replacement value, they are entitled to claim a brand new vehicle.

If this was to be the case, the insurers would then sell the old car to a salvage company /specialist breaker etc.

Not saying this is the case in this instance but, as the vehicle is under 12 months old, it could well be.

Would put money on thet going to a Salvage Auction for sale - HBC or Universal Salvage. Whose lorry was it (assume it was branded to make you think it was off to a scrappie)?

Yep, most companies will authorise repairs to around 90% of value. If the Insurance Company involved have the policy condition that I mentioned in my previous post (i.e. car under 12 months old and the policyholder the 1st registered keeper) and the vehicle fits that criteria, then they won't go ahead with the repairs if it is over the 50/60/70/80% etc, they will just offer the policyholder a new replacement vehicle (not that they have to accept but I dont think many would turn it down).
