Default Bit of advice for those with big wheels.

My steering arms are shot. I run 18" instead of standard 17" wheels.
Ordered a set yesterday from my local VX dealer. Whilst on the phone the parts guy asked which size wheels I had as the kits are different for the bigger wheels.
I was impressed that he asked, so it may be worth remembering if you have to replace your steering arms and have fitted bigger alloys.

Yep, I've just changed to 18s recently as you may have seen, and this is something I've been planning to do after I read about this in a past thread by Matt.

Are they expensive? Do you need to have the tracking etc. redone after they are fitted? Are they easy to fit or a dealer job?

ALL Vectra C and Signum cars fitted with 18" or 19" wheels as a factory option have uprated steering arms and uprated steering rack fitted at the factory.

The only reason I have gone for 19's on my Elite is that the chassis is already been uprated and has the uprated arms, due to being built with factory 18's.

Jamesy, you can tell if your arms are on the way out by a knocing sound and also a knocking felt through the steering.

Wheels maybe bigger but overall radius isn't so why the upgrade unless the tyres are fatter which leads me onto: what about us people that have just fitted 225/45/17's Don't tell me the arms, rack and pump are all about to blow?

No, because the overall radius is virtually identical changing from 215/50 to 225/45 - that's why it's ok to do it.

would these be upgraded due to the extra weight of bigger wheels rather than size?

18's 19's are the same radius as well though!

"would these be upgraded due to the extra weight of bigger wheels rather than size?"
