    Default Electric window major pain!!

    Hi all

So this morning i'm driving to work, its 1 degree outside and for one reason or another I had to wind my front drivers window down. Anyhow, it wouldn't go back up - at all. It's been playing up for a while now but this was ridiculous. In the end it went up, shot back down again, and got stuck again! Then I managed to get it closed completely by playing with the window switch for about 5 minutes (literally).

Now i don't think its the switch, as when I lock the doors (holding the button down) all the windows go up except the one in question. Does anyone have any ideas? I assumed it was the motor/regulator, but someone's pointed out it may be a blockage in the assembly?

    Any help much appreciated!!

Sounds like the anti trap mechanism is playing you up. If the glass felt resistance it either wouldn't move, or would shoot back down. If there was a bit of ice on the glass, that would probably cause it.

It doesn't seem to be affected by temperature to be honest. There was no ice on there, but i suppose something else could be blocking it that I can't see?

Is the best course of action to take it to a garage, or even the dealer?

Reckon it could be. Sorry mate.

Before you do though, try disconnecting the battery for half an hour or so, then reset the one touch operation. There is a thread on here on how to do it somewhere. I'll see if I can find it for you.

Disconnecting batt will have no effect.

Either sounds like the runners are stiff (might try a bit of lube in the glass guides) or a wiring harness issue.

If it's still covered by warranty, I'd send it back to VX for them to fix Just noticed that it's a 03 model in your sig. Is the main door connector OK? I'd try disconnecting it, spraying the contacts with WD40 (or similar) and remake the connection a few times. Easy to do and first thing to try before removing the door card and probing further.

By the main door connector do you mean the panel with the window and mirror buttons on? I assumed it wouldn't be this part as the window won't budge when i lock the car, and obviously i'm not touching those buttons then. Does that part simply prise off?

I've just been quoted about £200 for a motor and regulator - do you reckon it wouldn't be these parts? Like I said it closed eventually - at one point it did come half way up and then went back down again of its own accord. Don't fancy forking out £200 as I'm probably selling it soon!

    Thanks

i'd start with lubricating the channels the window slides in , in the door, with some WD40, like STE said..then that'll rule out the anti trap..

The door connector is to be found in between the door and the wing, a giant plug.. check it's tight... but if the window is working then i'd say it would be getting power through..

Will i need to take the door apart to get to these channels? Or is spraying directly down the sides going to do the same thing?

I'm a bit wary of winding it down at all to be honest in case it won;t go back up again....and it starts raining.

    Thanks

nope, you don't need to take the door apart to lube the channels, just shoot it in all you can get to....

if it just is 'dead', then it's more likely to be motor related, but if it moves easy enough, then i'd be looking for stiff channels.
