    Default Which Diesel

I am looking to buy a diesel Vectra C and with my budget it looks as though it will have to be a 2 litre or 1.9 engined one. Is the 1.9 engine more desirable than the 2 litre?

How do they compare for reliability, running costs and economy.

    Thanks.

The 1.9 is deffo cheaper to run and the performance is by far better then the 2.0 or 2.2 DTi's.

Regards reliability, my personal opinion is the DTi engines are less technical making them more reliable, but there's countless CDTi's out there doing the mileages perfectly fine.

If it was my money, I'd choose the CDTi everytime.

You may be surprised to find that the 3.0 V6 CDTi doesn't fetch much more second hand than the 1.9 150, that's why I bought one. Most people on here seem to think the 3.0 is bullet proof for reliability too.

After tomorrow's budget the 3.0 may even be cheaper !

My previous motor was a 2.0 dti Astra Estate. I now have a CDTI 1.9 (150) Vectra.

Astra didn't have a hiccup in three years. So far the Vec. has been just as good. The 1.9 is way, way quicker though.

Just bought an '06 SRi 1.9 150, and whilst I can't comment on reliability (yet!) the engine's as good as my former '02 BMW 2.5l 6-pot!! Bags of torque and 0-60 in under 9 seconds! Coupled with that I got 47-49mpg on my initial 300 mile run around Donny!!

Based on my experience it'll outpace many a 2-2.5l on the motorway without having to change down, just not from a standing start!! Having said that, I believe the 1.9 150 is one of the fastest Vectras (behind 2.0T, 3.0 V6s and the 2.8T - duh!).

It's a fast, strong puller that returns superb mpg - it was a no brainer in my eyes! I didn't like the sound of the mpg from the 3.0l (or the dearer VED I assume?), but the 1.9 is by no means a compromise.

I tested both the 150 1.9 and the V6, bothe are excellent, but having driven both to me the V6 was a no brainer. The sound and bags more torque than the 4 pot, plus still averaging over (just) 40 mpg. I always knew that if I'd bought a 1.9 I'd have regretted it erery time i saw a V6.

    1.9 CDTI v
    3.0 V6 CDTi (which I have)

    Advantages :
quieter at speed, slightly quieter at low idle
overall performance is outstanding, both in acceleration and braking, just compare the size of the discs, and the rears are also ventilated on the 3.0

    Disadvantages :
    Company car tax rates
Tax Disc (although difference is minimal)
Insurance rates (although difference is minimal with 4 years NCB)
    Fuel economy (40mpg against 30mpg)

    Overall :
If your budget and wallet can afford it, then 3.0 is more refined drive, great for high mileage drivers
The 1.9 150PS is the perfect compromise
The 1.9 120PS feels underpowered, and remains the budget option, however if you are a low mileage driver the 1.8 would be cheaper!

if you are only getting 30 mpg from the V6, you have a problem. Lowest I've ever had is 36, and normally over 40 mpg!

The 30 mpg average would be about correct, the book figure is 28 mpg
My display is currently showing 31.7 mpg, over the last 10K miles
It was sat at 31.3 mpg until a few weeks ago

The book figure for the 1.9 CDTI is 38 mpg
